First Female Black President!

In our last unit called Herstory in our class Equality, we learned about what issues race, gender, and class face. We learned about the voices that are gone from our history books. During this unit, we talked about what it means being a feminist and why people are one. For this AP I to do my project on the first female black president in the year 2120. I had to write a news article with an ad of a product based on my event. What I could have done better was to create a long news article. What I loved about this project was figuring out what might come in the future.

Food For Friends

In our elective term class called Global Peace, we had to do a nonviolent action based on an issue. For our last AP of the term, I went to my church to help make food and give it to the homeless, it was called Food For Friends. Using that we had to see how one or more of Gandhi four principles related to what we did. Overall I really enjoyed giving back and making sure the homeless don't go hungry.

What Is The Meaning Of Life?

This is for my class called Journalism. This is the third unit called Photo. What we learned in this unit is how a photo can tell a story. But if you change to photo and photoshopped it, that it can tell a different story. For our AP, we had to interview someone about what is the meaning of life. Then we had to take a picture of whatever they said was the meaning of life is. We also had to photoshopped the photo to show a different meaning. For our project, we had to write an essay about our interview and the two photos we took. Take a look at my project below.

                                                                              (AA,Interview,2018)

Throughout time, religion has been able to bring people together. But there is still that one question that everyone wants to answer, what is the meaning of life? I wanted to ask someone who is a leader at my church. I decided to ask the Rev. Brian Hastings who is an Episcopal Priest and rector at Church of Our Saviour where I go.
The interview took place at COS (Church Of Our Saviour). The interview was on Sunday, October 21, 2018, at 12:05 pm. Throughout the interview, Fr. Hastings shared with me his beliefs about the meaning of life. Here is some of his verbalizations:
“The closest thing to the meaning of life is the zest and joy we get when we grow and when we sort of open up our arms to those bigger, broader, deeper experiences of our own humanity and how we share humanity with other people.” His reason for this is that he saw a bigger and deeper meaning for life. The changes he witnessed during his life, were when he found the “zest and zing” to the meaning of life, It was when women, all ethnicities, and LGBT obtained equal rights. The meaning of life is being joyful and having open arms to everyone.
Part of the meaning for life for him also is enjoying life and being joyful. He added, “I think that zing and zest is a gift of God working in the world. You can be a secular humanist, you can be an atheist, you can be a Buddhist, a Muslim, a Jew, a Hindu, Confucian, you can be a Taoist, you can believe in Yoda and still see that zest and zinging when life kind of opens up.” What he means by this is that you can’t find the meaning of life in a place, but it is something that is much deeper meaning than that. Anyone can still find what the meaning of life is or as he says it “the zest and zing.” He says that no matter what you believe in, or what type of person you are you would still will be able to find the meaning of life. He believes this because in the Church that I go to we are one. We should not judge people for being different and finding their own paths to deeper meaning, that is a part of what the meaning of life is, but that is a fairly important part.
The image is of Fr. Brian Hastings in front of a cross at Church Of Our Saviour on Sunday, October 21, 2018. Both of the photos are of the same, but I manipulated the photo to tell more of a story. The one on the right enhances more of what Fr. Hasting is verbally expressing. The way I took the picture was straightforward. For visual perception, people can visually perceive the glow like God is there. Often when people see a glowing light, they equate it with God’s presence since we can’t visually perceive God with our own eyes. God’s presence is too powerful for humans to optically discern and understand. Humans can’t really see God’s actual form since we are humans and humans do have the capability to see his true form. For touch, people can feel the presence of the Lord through the picture that is on right. People can feel the Lord from the cross that is hanging in the background, and from the energy that is permeating the Church. For me, the image also has a smell of burning candles, which are always present. It also evokes the sound of the choir singing and the congregation singing too. You can taste the bread which Jesus gave his disciples, and we now do every Sunday.
I photoshopped it so everything is blurry except for Fr. Hastings and the cross. The reason why I did not blur out Fr. Hastings and the cross because the cross is a symbol for his meaning of life. Additionally, I made the picture glow in a way so it looks like God is there, or at least what people verbally express God looks if he shows himself to humans. I did this because it enhances the picture and makes the image more informational and powerful.
The picture on the right is meant to serve as an enhancer, to give the story more detail. The subjectivity of the right photo was to give you a happy emotion since you see God and the cross in one photo. In the end, the photo on the left has only one story, but the one on the right has as many as you can perceive. Fr. Hastings’ message throughout the whole interview was that no matter what you believe in you will still be able to find the meaning of life. He also states that the church has open arms and will accept anyone.

Chris Kyle

This is for my class called Journalism. This is the second unit called Sound. For our AP, we had to interview two people about someone who is inspirational to us. We had to record it so it will be like a podcast. The person who is inspirational to me is Chris Kyle. The thing I had trouble with was editing the recording. I overcame that by taking my time and being careful. What I loved about this project was learning more about Chris Kyle.

This blog is an introduction to a podcast where an interviewer and two interviewees discuss how Chris Kyle, the noted Navy Seal, inspired their lives. Kyle became an American hero in the Iraq War. His sniper skills saved countless American lives. Later he became a hero at home by helping physically disabled and PTSD vets regain as much of a normal life as possible. The impact that Kyle had was the direct result of wanting to help others before he helped himself. For many Kyle represents the American ideal—sacrifice, dedication, and teamwork. He did that as a Navy Seal by putting himself at extreme risk to make sure his fellow sailors and Marines were protected from armed militants, snipers and others trying to kill them. Once he resigned from the Seals, he found his new mission by helping those disabled during the conflict. The interviewees are two typical Americans who know some facts about Kyle. They and the interviewer discuss what Kyle meant to them, why they look up to him, and why he is an American hero. The intended audience for this podcast will be those who appreciate the sacrifices that American servicemen make for their country, those who want to learn a little bit more about the man himself, and perhaps those who are just curious about what makes a man like Chris Kyle tick. The point of this podcast is to inspire comments from listeners who want to share their thoughts and observations about the Kyle and what he stood for.

The Da Vinci Code

In this class called Forbidden Books, the unit I studied is called Dogma. We learned about religions and how they are and what they do in the world. Dogma is a set of principles laid down by an authority as incontrovertibly true. One good thing about dogma is that people have a set of rules to follow. A bad thing about that is that someone people may not agree with what it says. For this AP, we had to find a movie, book or video that was banned for religious reasons. The book I choose was The Da Vinci Code. We had to make a power point about the banning, like when was it banned or how or even what group banned it. The thing that I had trouble with the most was finding what book to use my project on since there was and this are a lot of books that are banned and being banned now, I over came that by choosing a book I have already read. The thing I have to most fun at was making the whole project and rereading the book again. Overall, I thought that this was a fun project to make and I hope you enjoy my project that I did.

When Does Self Defense Become Assault?

In this first class called Forbidden Books the unit is called Politics. We learned forbidden books, why they were banned, and how they were banned. We read a book called fahrenheit 451, it is about a guy named Guy who is lives in a future world. He is a fireman and what firemen do for their jobs is burn books. He gets a conflict because he wants to keep and read the books. On Wednesday we went to a book store called Women and Children's first. For this AP, we had to have a dialogue about a subject we choose with a partner. My partner was PVU, our dialogue was about when does self defense become assault? If you want to see his blog just click on his name. We had to make a video around two to four minutes. The thing that I had trouble with the most was making the video, I over came that by not going fast while I talked. The thing I have to most fun at was making the whole project with my partner. Overall I thought that this was a fun project to make and I hope you enjoy my project that I did with my partner. The Socratic method can be considered dangerous because people can ask to many question. It can change your mind even when you don't want it to.

The Man Who Saved Central City And Who Killed Osama Bin Laden.

In the last unit for HUMANITIES in the class called Stories, we are learning about world heroes. We had to see what different kinds of heroes there are and how they act. For this Action Project we had to work with a partner and find and fictional hero and nonfictional hero. My Partner was VD who selected a fictional hero. I was challenged to select a nonfictional hero and that selection was the most difficult part of this project. I overcame that by choosing the man who killed Osama Bin Laden because I decided he was an important hero. I had most fun was finding everything I needed for my project.

The two heroes we chose were Robert J. O’Neill, the Navy Seal who shot Osama Bin Laden, and Oliver Queen, the lead character in the TV program “Arrow.” We chose Robert O’Neill because he was brave and self-sacrificing when he went on his almost impossible mission. He is a hero to many people because he killed a person who was a great threat. He wanted to serve his country and make the world a better place. We chose Oliver Queen because he is down to earth. He is a good man. He wants to save people and protect his city. He wants to do right by his father. Both of them are good at what they do. They both train hard to become the best.

It may not seem like Robert J. O’Neill and Oliver Queen are very alike, but they have many things in common.   For one, they are fighting and killing for a very good cause. They are protecting a place they call home. Robert J. O’Neill was protecting the United States on his journey, and Oliver Queen was protecting Starling City. In addition, both men are constantly risking their lives on their journeys, in an effort to save the lives of innocent civilians. They are both humble about their work, and they don’t like to show off. They are both very selfless men who make the world a safer place.

The Gorilla

In this unit we red and study fables. We looked at many kinds of fables. We also learned how a story can show a lesson from a story. We watch a movie called The End Game. We had to see which characters is books or The End Game were dynamic, static, flat, protagonist, antagonist, and others from any kind of books or movies that share a lesson. We had to see what we can learn from that. The thing that I thought I did the best was creating the story. What I had trouble with was making the picture. I overcame that by drawing it slow and taking a time.

Inaglry, Brocken. (2009) Male Gorilla. Web; Wiki

There once was a family of gorillas, a father named Alec, a mother named Eve and their three sons. The oldest son was named Ernest, the middle son was named Ivan and the youngest son was named Jobe. Alec looked like a buff tall gorilla with brown eyes and a scar on his face. Eve had brown eyes and she was soft spoken. Ernest, the oldest son, was the leader of the three brothers. He was always in control. He was blind in one of his brown eyes. Ivan the middle son was the brave one, he would do anything. He had brown eyes. And little Jobe, he was small but he was smart. He had blue eyes, not like his father, mother, and brothers who had brown. Alec and Eve were criminals, and they brought their sons to their criminal life, but Jobe was different. He did not want to be a criminal, he wanted to be a singer. Whenever they would go on missions to steals priceless artifacts he would not go. He would stay home and practice singing. Home for Jobe was his place where he could escape from his parents’ criminal activities.

One day when his family was out stealing priceless artifacts, he went for a walk. It was windy, and suddenly something blew in his face. It was a piece of paper. He looked at the paper and read it. It said, “Want to become a singer, well come to 2755 North Banana Street and do an audition to go on tour with the Gorillaz and be their singer.” Jobe smiled when he read it, until he read the bottom that said, “The audition cost is only 20,000 beans.” Jobe felt frustrated because he did not have that kind of money. He stormed off back to his house and retreated to his room. Three hours later his family arrived back from their stealing spree. He did not talk to them for the rest of the night. In the morning his family was gone. He knew that they were stealing stuff. He went out to find a job so that he could pay for the audition.

After a while, he found a construction site where an apartment complex was being built. He had an interview. The boss liked him and said he could start work the next day as an apprentice. When he arrived back home his family was there. They asked where he had been and he said, “out with friends.” He went to his room and closed his door. He started to write a plan to see how long it would take for him to get the money he needed. He would earn 5,000 beans per month. He was happy that it would only take 4 months to earn the money needed for the audition fee. The next morning he was going to go out. His family was home. They tried to persuade him to go with them on a theft mission, but no matter how hard they tried he said no. When he said no for the third time he just ran out the door and slammed it closed. He was going to go to the gorillamart to get the tools he needed for his new job.

When he finished buying the tools he went home, and prepared for his first day on the job. Ten hours later his family finally showed up at home and they looked happy. Jobe asked, “Why are you guys so happy.” His father said, “Ernest just stole the banana from the Grand Gorilla statue’s hand.” The Grand Gorilla statue was like the Statue of Liberty for gorillas, and the banana in its hand was made from solid gold. Then Jobe went in his room. His brothers Ernest and Ivan already there going through Jobe’s belongings. Ernest said, “You are smart. Why do you have books? You should be stealing things.” The family heard a knock on the door before the brothers could say anything, the police busted in. The police yelled and asked for Ernest. Alec and Eve said, “There is no one here by that name.” The police pushed them out of the way and searched the house. They finally found Ernest in Jobe’s room. They arrested Ernest and left. Ivan said, “Now who will lead us?” Jobe stayed in his room with a grin on his face because his mean brother had been arrested.

The next day Jobe went to work. When he got there his boss said, “you are fired because you’re part of a criminal family.” Jobe went home mad. When he arrived he told his parents about being fired. His parents said to him, “well why don’t you join us for a mission.” Jobe said, “why not?” When they got to the bank, they immediately announced a holdup. In the middle of putting the money in bags the police showed up and arrested Alec, Eve, Ivan, and Jobe. Jobe said, “I had no part of this.” The police just looked at him and laughed. They put him in the police car and drove to jail.

A year later Jobe was still in prison and he thought about what had happened a year ago. He thought to himself, “Don’t always follow a crowd. If I had not followed my family I would not be here. I would already be singing with the band.”

Bellua

For the first class for the year the unit is called Stories the class is HUMANITIES. In this unit we explored stories form other cultures. For this project we had to create our own planet. Then we had to draw a picture of something that is in our story. The thing I did the best on this project the drawing the picture and making details for the story. The thing that I had trouble with was cutting it down from 1300 word to shorter. I over came this project by adding and deleting paragraphs that don't need to be there. It helped a lot but it was really hard to cut some things out of the story. Read below my story and below it is my picture.

I will tell you a story about how a special planet was made and the story of a special man. I was told about this story when I was young. My grandparents were told about this. So take a seat and enjoy this story of a strange place.

There was a Planet called Bellua, which was never at peace because monsters and humans, who lived there, were always fighting. It was created when a dark force and light force slammed into each other and made a big explosion, creating one big planet. The dark force was named Mefastofeles. The Lightforce was named Akilos. The dark force is like hell and the light force it like heaven. The planet was a mistake. It was not supposed to happen that way. The dark and light forces were brothers. There are many features to this world, the first one is the planet itself. The brothers fought and the planet was the result. The light force was the sun and the dark force was the moon. Akilos wanted to make a perfect world but Mefastofeles had a different idea. Akilos tricked Mefastofeles and locked him up in a cage. He made a key that the first human to be created on the planet would have. The key was a mark on the first man’s arm and that would be the key. If that man got rid of the mark, the cage would open. The second feature is the man with the mark. The man who had the mark would live forever not aging at all. When the man was created he was already a full grown man in his 30s. With the mark still on the man, the cage is locked. If the mark comes off the man and the cage unlocked, Mefastofeles would come out and the whole sky would turn red. Once that happened the planet would go to hell from there and everything would turn bad. Mefastofeles would make monsters that would outnumber the humans. Mefastofeles would start destroying everything and make it into his own image. For everyone on the planet, it would be bad. Since the beginning of the planet, parents trained their kids how to hunt monsters in case Mefastofeles escaped. Children were like warriors fighting the dark. The monsters were pretty much kept in check.

Meanwhile, the Man who had the mark lived in a house in the middle of nowhere. The house was be protected by a spell, which made it invisible to everyone. When you went to the exact spot where the house was located and then you cast a spell to unlock the house you would be able to see it. Akilos put the house there so that no one would try the get the mark off of the man. When the man with the mark needed food or water he would have to hide the mark and try not to be noticeable. The man with the mark was the only being on Bellua who could see the house without magic. This was for the safety of the planet. If anyone got the key, Mefastofeles would escape. It was vital that he stayed in the cage. You could say that Mefastofeles was trapped in the cage like tuna in a can. The man with the mark was the key to everything.

The man with the mark asked Akilos if he could have a baby so Akilos gave him a baby and his name was Harry. From 1 to 15 Harry lived a normal life on Bellua. When he turned 15 it all went to hell. Harry’s father was killed when he went on a hunt to kill a Vampire's nest. But actually, the man with the mark died by a spell the vampire used on him. The spell broke the mark’s spell and in doing so the man with the mark died and Mefastofeles was let out of the cage. Mefastofeles then killed the vampire and pretended to be the vampire. He knew that Harry would go looking for him and he did.

The third feature was the box that belonged to Harry. When Harry heard about what happened, he remembered something that his father had given him. His father had said, “When I die open the box.” So Harry went to look for the box. He finally found it, and he opened it. Harry’s face lit up like a Christmas tree. All of his fears went down the drain. The box was originally the man with the mark’s box. He made it and put everything in it for Harry. It had everything about being a hunter and everything you needed to know about monsters. For 2 years Harry learned everything about hunting and monsters. Harry was in a state of incertitude about his future, but he sent ahead with his plans anyway. He then faked his death and burned down his house so people wouldn’t go looking for him because he was only 17 years old. He made a fake ID and hacked credit cards. He went out to find and kill the monster that killed his father. Harry allowed himself to be a subordinate in the hunter training program until he became a master.

For years he searched for the vampire that killed his father. Finally, he heard that the monster was in purgatory. So he found a vampire and he made the vampire turn him. Before this, he was agitated but he decided to do it anyway. After that, he killed the vampire that turned him. He then took a stake and put it in his own heart. He woke up in purgatory. He went around fighting and killing all the monsters he could find while trying to locate the monster that killed his father. It was like a disease that had taken over him, a malignant tumor that needed to be cut out.

He found the monster but before he could kill it, the monster revealed himself as Mefastofeles. At that moment the earth turned black. Everything was dark. Harry was in a state of felicity, he was happy. He thought that he had killed the monster but he hadn’t. Suddenly everything just stopped. It was like nothing had ever happened, like Harry was not there. In fact he was not anywhere. It turned out that Mefastofeles had gone back in time and killed his father before Harry was born. So what that meant was that Mefastofeles had time traveled back before Harry was born and killed his father. That way could not have been born. So Mefastofeles had omnipotence over everything on the planet after all.

Now you are probably wondering who I am and how I know all of this. I am the being that started this all. I am the cause of why this cruel place was made. I am the darkforce, I am the master of all evil. I am Mefastolfeles and I am Harry. I created another one of myself to be the man with the mark’s son. That Harry was like the center of the earth everything went around him. If I did not create him I would have ended the planet a lot sooner. So I went back in time a killed the man with the mark before he asked Akilos if he could have a baby. You must be wondering how I could of done that when I was in the cage. What Akilos did not know was that I added a spell to cage. With the spell I I could do everything I wanted to do except leave the cage.

Now you will excuse me. I need to take care of Akilos.

Pizza Meals

This is my Last Action Project for my last term, Food For Thought. In this course we are studying about how to review foods. For this Action Project we had to choose a food to get at a restaurant and a home meal. We had to research a lot about our food. We had to find the food, review it and say what we smelled, tasted and felt about the food.  We also had to take a picture of our foods. The thing that I am most proud of is making the whole project. Something that was hard for me was reviewing it.  Please learn more about the project down below.

AA, Food Meals,(2016)

People either hate or enjoy pizza. Since I love pizza it will be my homemade meal. I will prepare a medium sized pizza. In these couple of paragraphs I will share my notes. The pizza looks like a square of meat with bread around it. It looks green and big. When you look at the pizza you can see steam coming from it. The pizza also looks outstanding. The pizza smells like green peppers and onions. When I took the pizza out of the oven it smelled earthy which reminds me of the outdoors. As for the feeling of the pizza it is hard and harsh.  When you feel it, it also feels warm and humid like a warm fire. The pizza bubbles so it sounds like birds pecking in the summertime and maybe like the breeze in the morning. When I eat the pizza is crunch and chewy at the same time.  It also tastes lemony. The dish I made appears fresh and organic to me. I know this because when it came out of the oven I had that feeling of perfection that I had just made a wonderful pizza. Six adjectives I would describe this meal are good, juicy, great, homemade, hot, tasty, Italian. The ingredients are: Mild Italian sausage, pizza sauce, mushrooms, onions, green peppers, green olives, black olives, Romano cheese, Mozzarella cheese, and hot roll mix. You can get all of these ingredients at Mariano’s. Overall this meal was very delicious and when I finished it I were full.

To compare my homemade dish with that of a professional, I wandered out to the Chicago Domino's pizza restaurant. The pizza looks like meat with sauce on it. It also looks like an angel coming down from heaven. It smells like the beach in the summer. It smells like flowers on a summer's day. The pizza feels like a smooth ground. It feels like a hot pot. It sounds like a stove pan sizzling. It sounds like the trees in the summer. When I eat the pizza it sounds like a wood being thrown in a fire. The pizza taste sweet, like very sweet. It also taste lemony sometimes. Six words to describe this meal are creamy, crispy, wholesome, lumpy, fine and saucy.

The dish that I preferred was the homemade meal. It had a more unique taste because I added more ingredients to it. Although the restaurant meal was delightful, it was much too crunchy. I thought that the homemade meal had a more preferable smell to it like real organic onions, pepper and sausage. The texture for the homemade meal was more tangible. When you touch it you can feel the warmth of it like a warm fire burning and the dough was crisp outside and soft inside. Over all the homemade meal looked more perfect. In the end, the homemade meal also sounded better. When you bit down on it you could just hear it sizzle. I would recommend the homemade meal, because overall it tasted, sounded, felt and looked superior. I would also recommend it because you could taste every ingredient in it. It tasted crunchy and smooth at the same time. The homemade meal was also quite a bit heavier, so after 10 or 15 bites I was full. Overall the homemade meal can have more foods within it so that means it might taste more perfect than each ingredient was originally. It can also be stored more easily than the restaurant meal.

One of Pollan’s five food transformations is called ‘from quality to quantity.’ This relates to my homemade meal for three reasons. The 1st is the quality of the meat is important. The 2nd, the quantity is huge-there are two pounds of hot Italian sausage in the meal. Lastly, pizza is a big meal because a whole group of people can eat it and enjoy sharing this together. Pollan’s 5 food transformations ‘quality to quantity’ is related to the restaurant meal for three reasons. The 1st one is that it does have a little quality from how it is packaged and sent to the person who ordered it. The 2nd one is the quantity of it is big. For the 3rd and final one this meal is big enough to feed ten people at a party since there are two boxes. Overall, both of the meals can be understood through Pollan’s 5 food transformations because they both can speak to quality to quantity.

In conclusion both of these meals are good in quantity but overall the homemade meal is the greater one out of both of the two meals because it was far superior in quality.

Growth Population

This is my second Action Project for my last term, Food For Thought. In this course we are studying in this unit is to see what a global food system looks like, and to understand the human and environmental impacts of this system. For this Action Project we had to choose a global issue that is happening in the world. We had to research a lot about our our issue and how to learn more about it. We had to find way to fix that issue and named three ways we could do that. We also had to find a way to address that issue that we are learning about. The thing that I am most proud of is making the whole project. Something that was hard for me was recording the project. Since I had to record something I made many mistakes but it all ended well. Please learn more about the project down below.

How many people can the earth hold? There are about 7.125 billion people living on Earth right now. Many Scientists think that the Earth can hold up 10 billion people. According to Live Scientist: “So 10 billion people is the uppermost population limit where food is concerned. Because it's extremely unlikely that everyone will agree to stop eating meat, Wilson thinks the maximum carrying capacity of the Earth based on food resources will most likely fall short of 10 billion.” My position is that I think too many people are being born in the world and soon the earth won’t have any more room for more people. One of the reasons why we have so many people here today is because many years ago people died much younger due to disease and lack of proper nutrition. Life expectancy was very short. Now people are much safer and healthier than they were before with food security. My solution is that we need to colonize other planets. In 2027 nine people will go to Mars and start a community. That community and others like it will have to grow dramatically. The development of food systems can be traced back to the origins of the production of food surpluses. These surpluses enabled the development of settled areas and we can use this on Mars.

We may have to have more than one earth by the rate humans are growing. “One possibility they consider is that future world fertility rates will remain what they were in 1990. The consequences of this, with accompanying small declines in death rates, are startling. By 2025, the world would have 11 billion people, double its number today. Another doubling would take only a bit more than 25 years, as the fastest- growing segments of the population become a larger proportion of the total. By 2150 there would be 694,213,000,000 of us, a little over 125 times our present population.” This is a global issue because in the next 9 years the world population would be more than 11 million more than the earth can hold. This means soon there would have to be more than one earth.

Many civilizations had a growth problem but each one had a different way of fixing it. According to BBC News: China had a one-child rule. If they had a girl, sometimes the girl was killed or abandoned in order to get a boy. Other countries use ultrasound to abort girls and have boys. This is causing a population imbalance with too many men in some countries and not enough women. That may lower the birthrate. The earth had less people before because there were a lot more diseases like the Black Plague. After the Black Plague a lot of the people were dead and the food was bad. The Black Death it was caused by Yersinia pestis bacterium. The Black Plague first exploded in Europe between 1347 and 1351. According to Empires Of Food: “It’s likely that 10 percent of Europeans starved to death around the year 1316.63 Worse carnage lay ahead. In October 1347, a mere generation after the famine, the bubonic plague hatched in Sicily.” The estimated number of deaths was 75 million people. After that it got better since they made food better and finds ways for people not to get diseases. Now people are still dying from some diseases but less than it was before. What we can learn from history is that advances in food and health change the birth rate. Now we have cures that can help us with some a disease. According to the Empires Of Food book: “By growing and storing food surpluses, the monasteries became business, cultural, and financial centers, as well as dietary hubs. Monks were such noted businessmen that one medieval writer observed that, around one monastery, the River Seine was a channel for vessels that trade in many goods. Abbots signed trade agreements with other abbots. The monks at St. Denis, for example, had a long-term arrangement to buy salt, wine, and oil from their colleagues in Marseille.” What this quote means is that the monks fixed the food that caused so many deaths. They used that to preserve food and made it better to make the food healthier.

A couple of ways I have so we can reduce the population growth is Even some people will inhabit Mars that is only 9 people out of 7 billion people that won’t do anything to help the population be smaller. We need population control. Supplied can be sent to Mars for the people and more people can stay on Mars and other planets. People could try and make a rocket or something that can travel to Mars and back to earth more easily and faster. A last way to reduce the population growth is to have everyone educated or to focus on having every young person educated. Three ways to address the population growth is “provide universal access to safe and effective contraceptive options for both sexes.” “Guarantee education through secondary school for all, especially girls.” “Integrate lessons on population, environment, and development into school curricula at multiple levels.” People will say it will be expensive to educate and it will take too long to give the supplies to Mars. Yes it will be expensive but we could create robots to help us. We could also find away to make it shorter for the time to get to Mars. In the meantime people need to have less children.

Soon there would have to be two earths in order to withstand the population growth. By 2150 there would be 694,213,000,000 of us, a little over 125 times our present population.” My recommendation to achieve slowing population growth and finding new planets we must make it's a priority. My last thoughts are that we need hope for our earth because of how the population is growing. If we keep on making more and more people be born on earth the world might die of hunger and diseases.

Sugar Is Me!

This is my first Action Project for my last term, Food. In this course we are studying food and where it comes from and framing. For this Action Project we had to choose an ingredient and write about it in first person from where it was made to our recipes. We had to research a lot about our ingredient and the center origin of it. The thing that I am most proud of is making the whole project. Something that was hard for me was recording the project. Please learn more about the project down below.

Who Am I Dream

This is my third action project for, Who Am I. In this course we did studying about dreams, and what they have to do with us. In order to complete this project, I had to study about my dreams, and when I am awake. I had to create a dreamcatcher. We also had to share a bad dream with our partner. Next I examined my partner's dream. For this we had to see what Id, superego, and ego does in your dreams and reality. What I am most proud of is the dreamcatcher. Something that was hard for me was creating the explanation for the dreamcatcher. Please learn more about my dreamcatcher. You can view it down below.

AA, Dream catcher,(2016)

I made a dreamcatcher it was hard at the beginning because I used a big hoop so my dreamcatcher. After I finished and started doing the loops it was easy and fun. The center of the dreamcatcher symbolize God protecting me. And how there is protection. The positive things the I want it to pass through is good wishes. Like thing I want or things I want for others. The bad things I want to get stuck is bad things like bad dreams. There are Fender guitar picks on it they represent by passion for music and rock.

AA, Dream catcher,(2016)

One of the vocabulary words is Id. The Id represents the middle the bead in the dream catcher because it choose what stays or goes like a boss. Id is when you are asleep the Id is like the boss. If I can study my dreams I can find out what the Id is doing. The second word is superego. The superego represents the good and bad dissensions in a person's life it choose what you do when you are awake even if it is bad. The superego is when you are awake it is like the one who make dissunitions even though they may not be good. If I study my dissunitions and how I react I can learn how my superego works. The lesson I learned was you need to be patient. The dream I told my partner was: I would wake up from hearing a scream. I would look in front of my door I heard a whisper saying “don’t look.” There was a man in black carrying a body away somewhere. Every night I been having that. Until a week ago it was me who was the dead body. When I woke up I was in my living room and my arms were hurting. I interpret this dream to be a fear or nervous. Maybe it was a dream I had when I was little and it is just recurring and I just did not remember because I don’t really remember my dreams that much. The only time I do is if it is important or a fear or even some bad dreams. My partner talked about my dream being a fear or being afraid of something that happened or will happen. It could also mean that I am nervous for something. The materials I used were a metal ring, a bead, string and thinner string. I got the materials from home and school.

Doubt

This is my second action project for, Who Am I. In this course we will be studying about doubt, and what philosophers think about it. In order to complete this project, I had to study about philosophers and what they think is doubt. I had to think of a question for the base of my project. Why it is important to me? How did I arrive at the question? We also had to see how this fit Wilhelm’s definition of a guiding question. We had to see if it is a question that addresses humanity or if it is Universal question. Next I examined both external and internal risks. For the philosophers we had to choose one to study answering this question, I chose Descartes. For the last slide we had to choose which discipline that you agreed with the most. What I am most proud of was making the slideshow, thinking of the question and deciding how it finished at the end. Something that was hard for me was finding what a philosopher would say to the question and selecting which discipline I agreed with the most. Please learn more about the slideshow and you can view it down below.

What is truth?

This is my first action project for, Who Am I. In this course we will be studying about who we are, and the truth. In order to complete this project, I had to studied philosophers and what they think is truth. For this Action Project we had to make a podcast about a topic we choose, our definition go truth and our beliefs. The thing that I am most proud of was making the podcast and how it finished. Something that was hard for me was recording the podcast and writing the script. Please learn more about the podcast and you can hear it down below.

Is there such thing as truth?

I did an interview with my dad. His definition of truth is that, yes, genes are a key part in making us who we are, but nurture also plays an important part too. This connects to the whole thing by have another idea of what truth is.

I was in 7th grade, I was in science class and a question popped up in class which is true nature or nurture for genes. At the end of class and for a week I was really thinking about this question a lot every time I had time I was thinking about. Finally I came up with an answer to say to my teacher. The answer is that nature (gene) made who we are today.

I believe that nature makes us who we are. Not only that, but how we act. I believe in this because each of us have many genes in common but each also some unique genes that are ours alone that no one has. Even identical twins has a different gene than each other.

I have not really thought about in for a while. I thought about it for a in 7th grade. In 8th I did not think about it at all since we were doing a different type of science (chemistry). In 9th I thought about it for a little in the beginning of the year I did not really. Towards the middle of the year I thought about it a lot more.

Now you will hear an interview I did my my dad.

The 2 min interview

1.The issue I did was nature vs. nurture I think that it makes who you are today.

2. I interview my father. His position is that our gene makes up who we are and what we do, but also nurture is important in who we are.

3. He believes what he said because we have genes and it makes up what we will be and do in our life.

4. The interview did not influence in my position at all. It stayed the same.It influence my idea of truth by changing it by everyone has their own definition of truth.

5. But no one will have to same definition of truth. It changes my definition of truth to something that it really different than was.

For me truth is a small tennis ball in a big pile of tennis balls of lies. We won’t really know the truth, so there is not really a definition of the word truth in my words.

HIV/AIDS

For my project for MDGs we were studying about the MDGs 6-8. I wrote my essay on MDG 6, which is to combat HIV/AIDS. The purpose of this essay was to influence someone to take action about HIV. I learned that HIV cannot be passed on by touching someone, but is passed on by unsafe sex. The part of this project that was the most challenging was trying to find examples of a country doing well with HIV. Uganda was having a big problem, but has found a way to improve. The thing I am most proud of is my picture and whom I chose to draw. The part that I loved about this is trying to find ways to spread the word for preventing HIV. The thing that was most interesting to me was that young men are the highest percent of people who are HIV positive. I learned that many people and countries are trying to cope with HIV I also learned that a lot of countries won’t even talk about people having HIV/AIDS and they won’t allow their country to have an open discussion because they are scared.

AA, Magic Johnson HIV. (2015.)

“When the millennium development goals (MDGs) were devised, AIDS, Malaria and Tuberculosis killed approximately 6 million people each year. World leaders felt it was imperative to have a goal dedicated to tackling this deadly trio” (Kironde). This means that every year 6 million people die from a disease. Some people are afraid to undergo medical tests especially when they know they are at risk of HIV. An examination of spirituality, acceptance and emotional support from the family and relatives will help them overcome this fear. How is HIV spread throughout the world?

When it was 1981 a very recognized syndrome was created. Many people think that HIV can get passed to people by touching them but it can’t. “Since its discovery, AIDS has caused an estimated 36 million deaths worldwide. In 2013 it resulted in about 1.34 million deaths.” This means that since the thing was created over 36 million people died worldwide of a disease. “HIV/AIDS has had a great impact on society, both as an illness and as a source of discrimination.” Even since HIV and or AIDS was founded it impacted society because it was a disease.

Uganda is doing really well with the disease. “Traditionally the government, supported by its international partners as well as local non-government organizations and the community has borne the brunt of the costs of containing the epidemic in Uganda.” This means that the government and the non-government both supported the costs of containing the epidemic in Uganda. In South Africa, AIDS is a great problem. South Africa is developing its options to tackle HIV/Aids over next 20 years. HIV/AIDS has had devastating impacts in many other countries, Uganda in particular. However, Uganda is depicted as one of the most successful countries in fighting HIV/AIDS. “Uganda's success story is attributed to the open general environment which allows open discussions surrounding HIV/AIDS when other countries, such as South Africa and Kenya, denied the existence of the disease in their countries.” (Result). This means that the country made a decision that they want to talk about it. In Uganda they built social capital, this means building the community with conversations. They had people in the community and all of the non profits talk to each other about their experiences with AIDS. They reduced being promiscuous and wife sharing by 90%. This should help reduce HIV. These safe sex techniques in Uganda are important because “The HIV/AIDS epidemic is likely to remain the pre-eminent global health concern for the foreseeable future.” This means that the diseases are still going to be a trouble in the future.

Perhaps we can learn from Uganda in the US. The Uganda model showed us that open discussion works. Young men are the highest percent the group in the growing in the US, But young women are most likely to become HIV positive when there is unsafe sex. We need to apply the model of open discussion with schools, friends and families. In Uganda all of the police, judges, medical professionals, non profits, all professionals helping with AIDS talked together and held community meetings with families. Individuals can take action by being nice to the people who have HIV and by having meetings where everyone learns how not to pass HIV. While we try to find a cure we can help people know about the disease. One way to help is to be open with education and prevention on social medias. People talk about this and can help each other find ways to prevent the spread of the disease not only in schools but in discussions about safe sex with their families and in the community. They can find a cure but that might not happen in time for young people today, so young people need to know how to be safe. Young people and their friends and family could also read more about HIV and have open discussions. In the US we talk about this in schools, but we need the community to agree to involve everyone, the family, the government and other organizations, All political parties have to agree to do these discussions. More education in schools, community campaigns, social media and media posters can go a long way to helping everyone learn to prevent the sharing of HIV between young people.

How can you help to prevent and find a cure for HIV? The progress that was made is that now we can help people continue to receive support and be friends with their old friends since they have HIV. People think that it can get passed by touching a person but that is not the case and everyone needs to learn how the disease is spread and how to prevent the spread. It is spread by having unsafe sex. I hope this is not true, but if there is no cure for this in my lifetime, we have to learn to prevent, be kind and have all friends and family members support those with HIV. We must help the people who have it and we must try to stop other young people from getting it. HIV cheats young people out of family, friends, jobs and joining their community.

Gender Equality

For my project for MDGs we were studying about Gender equality in the world. There are many places where a women should not be alone but there are also other places where they can be alone and safe. The purpose of this essay was to say where a woman can go and not be safe. We had to use US and another country that also has gender equality in it. I learned that many people think that some women are just objects. The part of this project that was the most challenging was trying to find another country that is like the US for gender equality. The thing I am most proud of is that not all the people in the US think women are just objects.

AA, Goodman Theatre Disgraced. (2015.)

Where is the best place in the world for women to live? In reality, there is no good answer. There are some better places. A lot more dangerous places. It really depends on where you are and if the women are comfortable. If the society just accepts that all women are not objects, the world would be a better place. Gender inequality also known as gender stratification, “is the unequal distribution of a society’s wealth, power, and privilege between females" (Best and Worst States for Women's Equality).

In the U.S. before the 19th amendment was passed women were not able to vote. They could not do a lot of things. Even though they vote they still cannot do many things. Gender is separated into two groups -- male and female. When the 19th Amendment was passed, women were granted the right to vote in the U.S. Even though the 19th Amendment passed, there are still many things that women can’t do in the U.S. that men can. According to the Center for American Progress, women “are only 14.6 percent of executive officers” (Best and Worst). If more women are given opportunities to have leadership roles, other women will be encouraged to work in those fields. If more women are leaders, they will be taken more seriously and get more jobs.

Norway is one of the best places for women to live. According to the Huffington Post, "Norway is as often as possible relegated as one of the best and most proportional countries to live on the planet” (Women, Work and the Economy). Norway gives women equal pay when they do the same jobs as men. In 1978, Norway passed the Gender Equality Act which changed the way that women were represented in the public sector. They did it that way before US passed the 19th amendment.

Is Norway better or worse than the US in gender equality? Both of the countries are having trouble with gender equality. They are some of the best places for a woman to be in. The U.S. still struggles with achieving gender equality, while Norway has taken many steps to promote gender equality.

In the US women's rights made it this far since the time that the nineteenth amendment was passed. In any case, regardless of this progression, gender equality in the United States continues persisting in various structures. Norway has been an unmistakable leader for women. Even though the U.S. still struggles with gender equality, it is making progress towards improving. The U.S. can learn from countries like Norway that already have gender equality in place.

Ensuring That Kids Have An Education

For my project for MDGs we were studying about humanity and Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs. Access to education should be considered a right because it fulfills one of the levels on Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs. The purpose of this essay was to say if kids education should count as a right. I learned that many people want to go to school but can't because of money. The part of this project that was the most challenging was trying to find ways to help children so they can go to school. The thing I am most proud of is the ways I found out how to help children.
AA, The Skylight In GCE Lab School, (2015.)
“The goal of a human rights-based approach to education is simple: to assure every child a quality education that respects and promotes her or his right to dignity and optimum development” (United Nations Human Rights). Every child means full inclusion of children with disabilities. According to Human Rights Education in Primary and Secondary School Systems, “approximately 80 percent of the world’s disabled population lives in developing countries.” (United Nations Human Rights.) Ensuring that all children complete school should count as a human right.

Inclusion in a regular school builds up the kids’ confidence. Confidence relates to one of Maslow's needs called esteem. Maslow’s needs is a triangle of five things that you need to accomplish in order to live you life fully. If you don’t go to school you can still get some jobs, but the ones that are interesting and that pay a lot of money won’t accept you. If you get a job where you don’t get a lot of money because you did not go to school you will have to have a lot of jobs. When children with disabilities are included all students self-esteem is increased because everyone develops a better understanding of themselves and others. Without achievement or good job offers you won't have good self-esteem.You will have to ask friends for money if you can’t pay for rent or food. You also might have to live in a friend's basement since you can’t get a lot of jobs. This will mean you have more difficulty achieve earning the respect of others. If disabled kids are not included in the other kids education they will not have the same opportunity for respect from others.

In fact everyone should have a good education so they can have an opportunity for an interesting and challenging job. Lots of good jobs want you to of graduate school high school and college. If you don’t have an education you may think you might not know how to use a computer or read you might also think biting is good to do because they might not know what is right or wrong. Can may act like an animal Because they might not know how to act. None of the jobs would want to hire you. So that is why it is good to have an education. Early childhood education that includes everyone will eventually increase earnings and create jobs for all around the world.

"There are many ways to achieve giving everyone access to primary education." As a matter of fact my idea on how to give everyone an education is if you can’t afford it you can get a certain amount of years for school for free and services for disabled students need to be free in all schools. By including everyone you can increase achievement. When every student has an individual learning plan, both disabled students and gifted students everyone will achieve more. Equal access to education can be fulfilled.... by a school being built just for the people who have a disability It will be for anyone who wants to go to a normal school but does not have the money. The school can be anywhere where many people who can’t afford it live. This is a way how we can fulfill all children to have a good education.

Access to education should be considered a right because if fulfills one of Maslow’s hierarchy of needs. If child education is considered a right, then everyone can have a good job. Everyone should have an education if you can’t afford it you can get a certain amount of years for school for free. This is why i think child education should count as a right. Then everyone will be happy even the kids.
